Shannon + Carl | Detroit Wedding | Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit Ceremony | The Guardian Building Reception

Shannon and Carl’s wedding day was such a blast. In the middle of a boiling summer, they were given a cool, breezy, sun-kissed day.

We started the day in downtown Detroit at The (very classy) Westin Book Cadillac Detroit Hotel. The lobby’s vintage furniture and sky high ceilings were stunning and the rooms were full of natural light; a perfect place to get ready. Their wedding party was so kind and sweet, it felt like hanging out with friends. I always love when a bride is prepared and Shannon and her wedding planner, Keriann, were on top of everything. They were so organized that we were even running ahead of schedule, one of the only weddings I’ve photographed that has achieved such a miraculous feat! I loved the details that Shannon chose, from her jeweled heels to her beautiful bouquet of peonies and eucalyptus and her modern lace wedding gown, it felt like a dream.

Their ceremony was held at the lovely Basilica of St. Anne de Detroit, a historic gem near the Eastern Market. The sun shone through the vibrant stained glass window as a welcome guest and the dramatic mood was set as the large balcony organ welcomed the wedding party down the aisle. When Shannon came down the aisle, you better believe Carl shed some tears. Many shed tears, especially when they read their vows to one another. It was so fun to see the Filipino traditions in this Catholic ceremony. They lit a unity candle, exchanged coins, and were covered with a cord and veil. You can read more about these traditions here. It was beautiful to witness. After the ceremony, we took family photos outside of the church and then took the wedding party to the white marbled walls of the Detroit Institute of Arts and then drove to their reception in the heart of downtown Detroit at The Guardian Building. Once you see The Guardian Building, it’s hard to forget its colorful and ornate walls, just stunning. After Shannon and Carl went up to a private room to recite their personal vows to each other (with more happy tears a’flowing), the party officially began! Their wedding was one that made me pinch myself that I actually get to work with such amazing people and to witness one of the happiest days of their lives on a weekly basis. Shannon and Carl, thank you for letting me be a part of your journey and for giving me the honor of witnessing and capturing your love.
