Adam + Leah | Backyard Michigan Wedding | Reception at Freighthouse in Ypsilanti, Michigan
OCTOBER 12, 2018
Backyard weddings might be my favorite. There’s a comfortability, history and beauty that translates in the photos that you can’t create anywhere else. Especially at the Kennedy’s home in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The house has lots of charm and their garden is award winning! When I walked in their house I was greeted with hugs and cozy. I walked up their gorgeous staircase to find Leah in her parent’s room putting the last touches into getting ready. Leah and her sisters are hilarious and kept me laughing the whole day. Sometimes I think, “This is my job? Laughing and hanging out with amazing people and photographing their crazy beautiful moments?? Dang.” I’m so glad these two gingers met and that I got to meet them. Adam has a quiet confidence with a deep wisdom inside. Leah is the light of the world, welcoming and brightening the faces and hearts of every room she enters. Together they are… HILARIOUS. And sharp. And warm. And giving. I loved watching them love on each other and love on their friends and family. They’d known each other for a long time before they tied the knot and it shows. They’re so comfortable and in tune with each other. They are in it together. Now and forever! What an amazing thing to witness. Adam + Leah, you’re the best!
Maybe I loved this family so much because I too am a Canuck at heart. I lived there through 1st and 2nd grade, and I love going back to that friendly country. If anyone’s curious, Windsor has amazing Korean food. I will give you a personal tour.
Apparently, I couldn’t decide where I wanted to put the dress. XD Too many pretty places!
After Leah got home from the hair salon, she realized that she wanted her hair down instead of up. Two sisters makin’ it happen.
Wouldn’t you feel like family in this room, too? All day, folks. All day.
Adam, you get best men’s wedding ring ever award.
I’ve never had so many amazing details from a groom before! I felt like a kid in a candy store shooting these detes. Lol.
And now for the first look!
And the THIRD dress location. XD I couldn’t get enough!
I want one of these in my imaginary garden.
Pikachu witnessed the whole thing.
See those drops on Adam’s shoulder? When Leah started walking down the aisle, light rain drops started falling. It was so magical. And made us a little nervous that it might downpour. But nope, it stayed magical.
After the ceremony we headed to downtown Ypsilanti to have some fun!
I love love LOVE when there’s lots of film cameras at a wedding reception! While I’m focused on the Bride and Groom, friends and family get to get jiggy with those lenses.
I can’t say enough about the Ypsilanti Freighthouse as a wedding venue. It’s already decorated so cool that you hardly need to add any details! They take care of everything and have AMAZING service. Would highly recommend.
Here’s a not-so-secret. I always cry during Father-Daughter dances. Without fail.
When the groom is graphic designer. Come. On. I’ve never called hot chocolate fierce before today.
Thriller? Nailed it.
A beautiful end to a beautiful day. So glad I got to come along.
